Albino Dwarf Bulborbs are small and similar in shape and size to Dwarf Red Bulborbs. They debut in Pikmin 4, possessing white skin and eyes of a darker blue than Dwarf Red Bulborbs, giving them an albino appearance. Their colorless body is very similar to that of a Bulborb Larva, making them moderately indistinguishable at a glance. Albino Dwarf Bulborbs are nearly identical to Dwarf Red Bulborbs, but they only appear at night or in Caves. They also have slightly more health, and are not susceptible to death from a direct hit, unlike their colorful counterparts. Despite being a Dwarf Bulborb, which are most commonly Breadbugs that mimic Bulborbs, they are not in the Breadbug Family - instead, they are a true Grub-dog, yet still have not grown close to their adult size.
Molts[]
The Albino Dwarf Bulborbs appear to be Bulborb Larva after molting for the first time. After this stage, they molt again, turning into the Red Bulborbs seen on the surface. It is therefore possible that this species does not ever see daylight until it is fully grown, hence its bland color. The reason for this is apparent hostility from its counterparts of a later molt, stated by Olimar in his notes on this creature The Wollyhop appears to possess this trait as well, bearing plain skin due to living its life in dark areas.
Notes[]
Dalmo's Notes[]
"Among all the naturally charming Dwarf Bulborbs, this one might have the most attractive and well-balanced conformation. When night falls, the eyes of these fascinating creatures emit an intense glow. Whether to mesmerize prey or help it spot others of its kind, it's an intriguing adaptation. I could stare at those shining eyes forever!"
Olimar's Notes[]
"A Bulborb Larva after its first molt. Due to its pale coloration, it was assumed to be a mimic when it was first discovered. It was later confirmed to be a true Dwarf Bulborb. To avoid predation from adult Bulborbs, it spends the majority of daytime hours hiding underground. It becomes more active at night, when its paler coloration is more difficult to see. In this state, it is difficult to discern what species of Bulborb any given juvenile may be by appearance alone. It's only after a Bulborb's second molt that they start to display more distinguishing species characteristics."
Louie's Notes[]
"Peel off the skin, starting at the tail end. Then slice thinly and boil in a pot of heavily salted water. Serve immediately."
Battle Strategy[]
This creature should be fought almost identically in process to how a Dwarf Red Bulborb is fought. However, it has more health, so instead of sneaking up on it and sending one Pikmin to kill it, throw two or three. If stealth is not a viable option, simply charge your Pikmin at it, or throw them repetitively - a quick defeat should result in no Pikmin casualties.
Trivia[]
- While Albino Dwarf Bulborbs and Dwarf Red Bulborbs would look identical (despite color), a differing trait is the Albino Dwarf Bulborb's more sleek nose. This nose is also possessed by normal Red Bulborbs, making it seemingly a defining trait of Bulborbs in the Grub-dog family. However, Frosty Dwarf Bulborbs do not have their elders' sleeker snouts, despite being in the Grub-Dog family.
