Pikmin Wiki

Automatic Gears (オートマチック・ギア, Ōtomachikku Gia) are recurring ship parts in the Pikmin series. One first appears in Pikmin, as one of 25 mandatory parts to collect for the S.S. Dolphin, and six for the Hocotate Ship appear in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale in Pikmin 4.

Mainline appearances[]

Pikmin[]

The Automatic Gear is located in The Forest Navel, on a ledge near the landing site. A climbing stick has to be built in order to reach the Automatic Gear. Since the Automatic Gear is located high up, Pikmin get deflowered when they fall off the edge while carrying it, and the treasure glitch is also likely to occur due to the long drop. To prevent the Pikmin from deflowering, Olimar can call them back just as they are walking off the border. Alternatively, Olimar can simply walk away, because if the Pikmin are off-sight, they do not become deflowered. Since there are several Shearwigs being in the area where the Pikmin fall, Olimar must take precautions to ensure no Pikmin deaths. Fiery Blowhogs can wander into the drop point of the part later in the day, so it may be a good idea to use Red Pikmin.

In his Discovery Notes, Olimar says that the Automatic Gear works at its own pace and makes piloting easier, giving him time to concentrate on other things while flying the ship. When collected, this part will not visually change the S.S. Dolphin.

Pikmin 4[]

In Pikmin 4, six Automatic Gears have to be collected in the Olimar's Shipwreck Tale campaign. One is in Sun-Speckled Terrace, another is in Blossoming Arcadia, three are in Serene Shores, and one is in Hero's Hideaway.

Sun-Speckled Terrace[]

The Automatic Gear can be accessed the same ways as the first Extraordinary Bolt in Sun-Speckled Terrace. Instead of going to the tower head straight and go left until the Puffy Blowhog defeat it, then defeat the Arachnode to release the Automatic Gear.

Blossoming Arcadia[]

The Automatic Gear in this area is found near Misshapen Pond, on the left of the mud pond there is a ledge throw Pikmin up to it to get the part.

Serene Shores[]

First of the 3 is near Water's Edge, on the left of the Hermit Crawmad, and through the grass, you find two holes. Inside one of them is the Bug-Eyed Crawmad, defeat it to obatin the Automatic Gear to bring back to the ship.

Second of the 3 is near The Sand Keep, which was guarded by the Sovereign Bulblax. Build the climbing wall behind the base and climb up, defeat the Aristocrab Offsprings and Bubble hazards then claim the part.

The last one is being guarded by a Masterhop, defeat it and dig up the Automatic Gear.

Hero's Hideaway[]

The Automatic Gear in this area is being guarded by a Miniature Snootwhacker on top of a study table. Distract the Snootwhacker and grab the Automatic Gear while it is distracted.

Notes[]

Discovery Notes[]

"I've found the Automatic Gear!

This thing chugs right along at its own pace. It makes piloting much easier, giving me time to concentrate on the finer points of space travel."

Ship Log[]

"It has thin cracks running through it. I tried to fill them with dirt... I hope it will be all right."
