Pikmin Wiki

The Burrow of Beginnings is the first cave explored in Pikmin 4. It is located within the vicinity of the Rescue Command Post. The Burrow of Beginnings is a largely empty cave with only one sublevel. It has a wide, open room where Shepherd is found. The Burrow of Beginnings is the "tutorial" cave, having no enemies other than three Bulborb Larvae, none of which can damage the Player Character. The wide, open room also has five breakable pots.

The game recommends Red Pikmin when revisiting the Burrow of Beginnings a second time, even though the Player Character does not take any Pikmin during the first visit (having not yet discovered them) and revisiting the Burrow of Beginnings is entirely optional.

History[]

As the Player Character and Collin make their way to the S.S. Shepherd on day 1, they reach a dead end. To the right, they find a pile of dirt, with Collin noting that Rescue Pups are skilled at digging, so after Oatchi completes his digging, this reveals the Burrow of Beginnings. Collin sees a nearby hole and wonders if the two are connected underground. After confirming that they want to enter, the Player Character, Collin and Oatchi jump into the hole and enter the Burrow of Beginnings.

Shepherd discovered P4

Shepherd is first discovered clinging on to a wooden trunk to avoid the Bulborb Larvae circling her.

After continuing down a somewhat winding path, the Player Character, Collin, and Oatchi enter the main wide area, where Shepherd is seen holding on to some wooden trunk-like structure as three Bulborb Larvae circle around it. After the Player Character has Oatchi defeat the three Bulborb Larvae (which do not respawn on subsequent visits), Shepherd properly introduces herself to the Player Character. She proceeds to explain that she accidentally fell into the Burrow of Beginnings after trying to peek at it through one of the entrances, then had encountered the Bulborb Larvae some time later while looking for an exit. The group agree to make their way to the S.S. Shepherd, and the Player Character also unlocks the Rescue Journal for their Tablet.

When the group finds the other exit, which is a hole in the ceiling, Shepherd clarifies that she fell into the Burrow of Beginnings from there. Collin is surprised that she survived a high fall and then wonders how they are going to climb out of the Burrow of Beginnings. The Player Character examines an object, which then generates wind that blows the entire group back to the surface through the exit.

At the surface, Shepherd advises the Player Character to be more cautious when encountering something unfamiliar, to which Collin agrees, but he still notes that the impulse of the Player Character allowed all of them to exit the cave. Collin plants a Rescue Corps flag next to the exit to indicate that they have completed the cave.

Trivia[]

  • The Bulborb Larva in the cave cannot damage the player or Oatchi at all, even if the damage sound does play.
