The Geographic Projection, also known as the Geographic System, is a treasure in Pikmin 2, part of the Explorer's Friend Series. It is actually the southern hemisphere of a globe, and the Geographic Projection is one of many things suggesting that PNF-404 is actually Earth. There is a similar treasure, the Spherical Atlas, which depicts the northern hemisphere half of the globe.
Similarly to the Spherical Atlas, the front side of the Geographic Projection shown in a few cases, such as during its discovery and while being analyzed by the Research Pod, differs between regional releases. In North American and Japanese versions, the globe shows the bottom area of South America, while in European versions, it shows Oceania.
Retrieving the Geographic Projection unlocks the Survey Chart, which allows Olimar and Louie to progress to the Perplexing Pool, since it has coordinates capable of locating the new area.
Appearance[]
Pikmin 2[]
The Geographic Projection is found in the Awakening Wood, in the exact spot where the Yellow Onion is found in the first game. The Geographic Projection is slightly buried and located near the longest bridge in the area, behind a poison-covered gate near the Hole of Beasts. The Geographic Projection has a weight of 101, meaning that at least one Purple Pikmin is required for the Pikmin to lift the Geographic Projection, since one Purple Pikmin has the strength of ten Pikmin of any other type.
Notes[]
Olimar's Journal[]
"The interior of this hemisphere contains a chip coded with charts detailing a new region. I explored this forest the last time I was here, but it's clear that it has undergone some dramatic changes. The plants and animals have also evolved significantly. I've given this forest a new name... The Awakening Wood. I must begin to form a hypothesis to explain why the forest changed so rapidly."
Sales Pitch[]
"If you have both pieces, does the value increase? Do you want it? Need it? Crave it? You should. This is the ultimate storehouse of geographic data in the known universe."
The Ship's dialogue[]
Found[]
"Fascinating! This object is highly similar to the one you found in the Valley of Repose.
By examining this further, I may be able to extrapolate new planetary data!"
Collected[]
"This hemisphere also contains a hidden microchip! I will attempt to decrypt the stored data...
Decoding complete! As I surmised, this chip contains additional topographic data.
The data has been inputted into my database. I shall name it the Survey Chart!"
