Pikmin 4 |
The Gildemander is a boss in Pikmin 4. This creature is similar to a lizard and an anglerfish, and it also sports a pile of gold on its back. This is actually an imitation of Sparklium. The electromagnetic waves it releases confuse the Pikmin, forcing them out of the Onion. However, in the main story, this is never observed, as the creature lives underground. This creature has two main attacks, one of which is to eat your Pikmin. It will also scramble the Treasure Gauge, although some may not consider this an attack.
Notes[]
Dalmo's Notes[]
"Notice the gold sparkles on its back. In order to survive, this delight of a creature spends a mind-boggling amount of time collecting those special gold stones. Though it isn't real gold it can confuse the sensors. That's another marvel of the natural world for you."
Olimar's Notes[]
"The ore-like growth on its back is a coagulated bodily fluid that includes a substance similar to sparklium which can make our mechanical sensors "go berserk" to use a technical term. This living ore emits a scent that lures the creatures' prey so it's also important for their feeding process.
The lantern-like organ atop its head emits electromagnetic waves that are known to affect Pikmin and Onions, confusing them into thinking the Gildemander is their leader, allowing it to withdraw Pikmin directly from the Onion. However, it cannot go as far as to command them as a squad, so the Pikmin will often hide under cover and able to avoid ingestion."
Louie's Notes[]
"The meat gives off a faint aroma similar to hot pepper. The flavor itself is subtle and elegant. Chargrill the lantern until blackened, and you've got a nutritional superfood."
Strategy[]
At first, the Gildemander is impervious to damage. Rushing with Oatchi or throwing enough Pikmin on it will knock off its gold, which you should then destroy before the Gildemander reclaims it. Repeating this process enough will expose all of its weak points, which resemble large rubies. As more damage is dealt the weak points will shrink, making throwing Yellows your best strategy. The Gildemander's primary attack is slow and in a small radius directly in front of it. Avoiding this is easy as it makes a loud noise before attacking and chewing motions.
Trivia[]
- Its scientific name means "false gold salamander."
