The Hydro Dweevil, otherwise referred to as the Watery Dweevil, is a member of the Dweevil family. It first appears as an enemy in Pikmin 2, where it is named the Caustic Dweevil (ルリショイグモ), and returns in Pikmin 4 under its current name.
As is typical of Dweevils in general, a Hydro Dweevil picks up any treasure or enemy body it can find, only releasing it when Pikmin attack. The only offensive measure the beast can take is spraying an acidic bodily fluid on enemies, which drown all Pikmin types except Blue Pikmin, making them the best choice in battle against it.
Battle strategy[]
Pikmin[]
Throw Pikmin on their small heads. Although they can harm non-Blue Pikmin, they are weak and often die before getting a chance to attack at all, and this does not kill Pikmin instantly, allowing them to be whistled to safety by a Captain if they do come into contact with it. Purple Pikmin are particularly useful in defeating large numbers of smaller Dweevils with ease, since they stun when thrown, halting any enemy attacks, usually until death.
Captains/Oatchi[]
Run up to it and punch it until it begins its attacking animation, leaving plenty of time to run away before it attacks. Run back and continue the assault when the acid stops. Oatchi's Rush can knock any items off of Dweevils instantly, as well as do massive damage to it if it isn't carrying anything.
Notes[]
Pikmin 2[]
- Olimar: "The caustic dweevil is one member of an insect family known for mimicking objects by carrying them on their backs. Several points of differentiation with other members of the species have been confirmed, such as body color and behavioral patterns, but none of these suggest major deviations in the creature's genetic structure. This makes it clear that it is a relative of the family. When attacked by enemies, the caustic dweevil spits out bodily fluids in response. Space suits corrode and oxidize when they come in contact with this highly acidic liquid."
- Louie: "Inedible. Effects of consumption include uncontrollable arm flailing and enthusiastic dishwashing."
- Nintendo Player's Guide: "They'll make your skin crawl on sight, but the worst Caustic Dweevils can do to your troops is to spit water at them. Use only blue Pikmin in the battle if you can, and toss them at the beast's body. If you use other types of troops, be ready to whistle them free from bubbles."
Pikmin 4[]
- Dalmo: "It’s bewitching to behold the way it skitter-skatters its way around on this long, slender, lapis-lazuli blue legs while carrying treasure on its back. If, in an excess of excitement, you each a handful to touch it, a startling splash should deter you! Be calm and quiet around this beastie."
Trivia[]
- Caustic Dweevils were originally going to be called Acidic Dweevils.[citation needed]
- Though never seen above ground, unused content reveals that the Caustic Dweevil's seed worth was intended to be 5 seeds.
- An unused icon on the roulette in battle mode suggests that the Caustic Dweevil was going to be an enemy that could be summoned by Louie to harm Olimar, similar to the Watery Blowhog .
