The Insect Condo, also known as the Bugs' Kingdom (バクズ・キングダム, Bugs' Kingdom), is a recurring treasure in the Pikmin series. It is actually a red apple. One first appears in Pikmin 2, as part of the Succulent Series. The Insect Condo reappears in Pikmin 3, but is classified as a fruit instead. Two Insect Condos appear as treasures in Pikmin 4, instead being part of the Winter Reserve Series. In all three appearances, the Insect Condo is described as being contained with several bugs.
In Pikmin 2, the Insect Condo is located inside of a Fiery Bulblax on the fifth sublevel of the Dream Den. You can either take the Bulblax out with Red Pikmin, or guide it off a ledge and into the abyss. As is the case for any treasures that are inside enemies that fall into an abyss, the Insect Condo somehow drops back on the ground. There are Red Bulborbs and Blowhogs that may hinder the Pikmin while they carry the Insect Condo back to the Research Pod.
In Pikmin 3, the Insect Condo is found at the Twilight River. Access the second part of the area by lifting the dam, and then travel down the river until coming upon an electric gate. Either destroy or go around the gate and in a small arena behind it you will encounter a Burrowing Snagret. Defeat it and the Insect Condo will be relinquished and free to take back. The return trip is made much quicker thanks to a path that brings the player directly back to the area where the Winged Pikmin are first found.
In Pikmin 4, one of the Insect Condos is inside of a Startle Spore in the fourth sublevel of the Engulfed Castle. The other Insect Condo is located in the second sublevel of the Frozen Inferno, behind a crystal wall, so Rock Pikmin are required to collect it. This Insect Condo is also guarded by a Frosty Bulborb, which must be defeated before attempting to collect it.
Notes[]
Olimar's Journal[]
"This sumptuous nugget may look delicious, but internal scans indicate a parasitic infestation! The ship can't stand to even look at these pests, let alone store them. But I had to put my foot down on this one."
Sales Pitch[]
"Awash in color and sugars, this item makes an ideal home for many insect species. I am sure this is valuable to the scientific community, but it has little value as a commodity."
Brittany's Notes[]
- NTSC "That smell! I can't tear my nose away from that smell! I'd dive right in and start eating, but something about this name the computer supplied makes me just a touch suspicious about whats going on inside this thing..."
- PAL "I'm having difficulties prying my nose away from the crisp, sweet scent. I'd dive in and devour, but something about the name leads me to suspect our ownership of this specimen may be contested. I won't trespass until we've conducted a proper survey."
Schnauz's Notes[]
"This fruit is a member of the plant family "Bugeatenidae." As its name implies, the Insect Condo is a popular abode choice for a number of insects. And who can blame the bugs for taking up residence here? This fruit is not just homey but also quite delicious."
Olimar's Notes[]
"This fruit could be hiding more than a tasty interior... On more than a few occasions, I've found bugs munching their way through the sweet flesh, presumably enjoying a snack of their own. How funny to think that I share the same taste in fruit as a worm."
Louie's Notes[]
"Crispy yet juicy. Light yet hearty. Always check for worms before taking a big bite. If you find one, it's a sign of good luck."

Trivia[]
- In the 2012 demo of Pikmin 3, the Insect Condo required only eight Pikmin to carry, as opposed to ten in the final game.
- The Insect Condo, in both of its story appearances, is found inside an enemy.
- In the Japanese version, Dolphin Unit 1's dislike of the Insect Condo is actually a play of words. Olimar mentions that the Insect Condo is full of bugs, and Dolphin Unit 1, being a computer, naturally dislikes "bugs".
