The Leaflings are unidentified organisms residing on PNF-404. However, their physical appearance resembles that of the Castaways, and on their heads exists a sprout similar to that of Pikmin, as well as a colored glow similar to that of idle Pikmin around the sprout. These victims have been seen to be created by being put through an Onion in a way similar to the method that reproductive Pikmin fuel is absorbed, however instead of Pikmin sprouts coming from the top, they are inelegantly shot out. Notably, despite their original species' weakness to oxygen, these Leaflings seem to be able to survive in it, as they all are missing helmets to their space suits.
List of Leaflings[]
Olimar[]
The Red Leafling appearing in the game's trailers (as well as in the Dandori Challenge caves) has an uncanny resemblance to Captain Olimar. This Leafling intends on capturing castaways that are scattering throughout PNF-404, and transforming them into leaflings to adapt to the planet's hostile environment. It is accompanied by Moss, the space dog, that Olimar relies on in the intro of the game, further solidifying the theory that this red Leafling is Olimar. Later in the game it is confirmed that the Red Leafling is Olimin.
Castaways[]
There are 21 Leaflings in Pikmin 4. They can be found in Dandori Trials and Battles, and in Hero's Hideaway, they can also be found in caves. They can be cured with Glow Sap acquired from Lumiknolls during night expeditions.

Trivia[]
- Strangely, once a Castaway is transformed into a Leafling, they become obsessed with the art of Dandori.
- When a Leafling is brought to the S.S. Beagle, and the ID Badge is checked, their description is corrupted with no name, and shows home planet as PNF-404.
- If you rescue enough Castaways, Puddle can turn you into a Leafling, complete without a helmet, and with eye and color options.
