Nectar is a yellow liquid that Pikmin in their leaf or bud stages drink to finalize their maturity into the flower stage. Nectar first appears in Pikmin.
Mainline appearances[]
Pikmin[]
In Pikmin, nectar can be obtained either from Honeywisps, Grass, or Stones. Flower Pikmin do not drink nectar because they have matured fully, so in the games, a useful strategy for getting Pikmin flowered is by using a few flower Pikmin to retrieve nectar from either the grass or stones, saving the problem of a single Pikmin drinking an entire blob because it lands on top of it. After this, several Pikmin in their leaf or bud stage can be swarmed to the nectar.
During the game's development, nectar was originally planned to be droplets of water, as seen not only in pre-release material, but also from the fact that "water" is their internal name within the game's files.
Pikmin 2[]
In Pikmin 2, there are six ways to obtain nectar, twice as many as in the first game: Unmarked Spectralids, Ujadani, Mitites, Honeywisps, Nectar Eggs, and the usage of Ultra-Bitter Spray. The same strategy from Pikmin for getting Pikmin flowered applies to this game as well.
Pikmin 3[]
In Pikmin 3, nectar comes from Nectar Eggs, Nectarous Dandelflys, and Yellow Spectralids. Unlike the first two games, every droplet of nectar can be consumed by only up to ten Pikmin. However, individual Pikmin will drink the droplet bit by bit, making it shrink in size, rather than a single Pikmin drinking all of the Nectar at once.
Pikmin 4[]
In Pikmin 4, the role of nectar is based on its appearance in Pikmin 3. Nectar can also be drunk by Oatchi.
Spinoff appearances[]
Pikmin Bloom[]
Nectar is automatically extracted from any fruit the Pikmin collect in Pikmin Bloom. Its role differs substantially from the mainline games, and it appears in a variety of colors. The Mii can then feed their Pikmin nectar bubbles, which can be of a different color, to make them grow different flowers that can be taken and dispensed to spread over the world. The flower color produced depends on what nectar the Pikmin are fed.
Crossover appearances[]
WarioWare: D.I.Y.[]
In WarioWare: D.I.Y. (not including Japanese releases), nectar is an object in the Pikmin microgame, in which a droplet of it can be seen on a rock. The objective is for a Red Pikmin to be thrown on to the rock by Olimar so that it can drink the nectar. If successful, the player wins the microgame, otherwise they lose at it.
Nintendo Land[]

Nectar spread all over the place in Pikmin Adventure.
In Pikmin Adventure, an attraction in Nintendo Land, Nectar is commonly found inside of "?" blocks, and appears as leftovers from destroyed enemies. They instead have an orange and red look, unlike the mainline Pikmin games. A Mii levels up for every three blobs of nectar, eventually taking to level 5 to get a bud and level 10 to get a flower. If a player's character takes damage, they release a few drops of nectar.
If the player is failing to succeed at a level, an Assist Block containing a large drop of nectar spawns near the starting point. Upon breaking the Assist Block and collecting the nectar, this evolves all players to level 50 in nectar, also giving an extra minute in timed missions.
Notes[]
Nintendo Land[]
- Monita: "Nectar is a condensed, highly nutritional food source that has been scientifically proven to encourage a Pikmin's growth. Also, it looks delicious."
Pikmin 3[]
- Prima guide: "This golden liquid causes immature Pikmin to instantly blossom. Pikmin move much faster once they've matured, so try to make use of any nectar you find.
Glitches[]
In Pikmin, the Pikmin can only drink nectar if the blob is at "full size".
There is glitch that occurs if a drop of nectar, such as one from a petrified enemy, falls on top of a pile of sticks used to build a bridge. If the sticks are removed from under the drop by building the bridge, the drop remains suspended in the air. Pikmin can be made to drink the nectar by throwing them at it, and they will fall back to the ground once the nectar is all used up.
Another glitch can occur if Olimar walks into a drop of nectar and starts throwing Pikmin. Sometimes the pikmin will hit the surface of the nectar from underneath and bounce right back in front of Olimar, who then cannot collect the Pikmin.
