The S.S. Beagle is a research pod that treasures are collected with in Pikmin 4. It is piloted by the player at the start of the game to get to PNF-404 and save the Rescue Corps.
Description[]
The S.S. Beagle is a small, pod-shaped ship. It is colored white and the color of the Rescue Corps, which the player decides when creating their character. On its top, there is a metal bar with two spotlight-like objects on the ends. This bar rotates seemingly constantly. One one side of the ship, a porthole resides in the metal, while the other side bears the logo of the Rescue Corps. Blue flames are emitted from the underside of the ship when traveling. When the ship is stationary, a light blue beam shines out from the bottom, and when treasures, raw material, enemy carcasses (when in caves), or Castaways appear under it, they are absorbed into it, with Castaways having their ID Badges checked, and being in the Rescue Command Post the next morning.
Biography[]
The S.S. Beagle is taken to PNF-404 by the player with intentions to rescue the Rescue Corps. It, unlike the S.S. Shepherd and the S.S. Dolphin, successfully landed on the planet without incident,
It appears to fit into the top chimney of the S.S. Shepherd, and inserts Sparklium through that spout.
Trivia[]
- The S.S. Beagle is the only ship in the history of the Pikmin series to have a completely safe landing on PNF-404 except for the Hocotate Ship in Pikmin 2.
- The S.S. Beagle bears a resemblance to the top of the Hocotate Ship's Research Pod as it appears in caves.
- The S.S. Beagle shares a name with the ship Charles Darwin took a voyage on (the H.M.S. Beagle). Wherever it stopped Darwin would seek out new species and amazing sights. Darwin later published a journal of the voyage, which describes his encounters in detail, each entry full of enthusiasm and a questioning sense of wonder.
