The Snowy Blowhog, otherwise referred to as the Iceblown Blowhog, is an enemy in Pikmin 4. They are a relative of the Watery and Fiery Blowhog. Aside from their light blue body, the main difference with Snowy Blowhogs is that they have the ability to blow out a stream of ice instead of water or fire. Snowy Blowhog behave identically to their relatives in battle, throwing Pikmin off and then shooting their elemental material onto them. When Pikmin that are not immune to this icy ejection come into contact with it, they will freeze, and can be whistled to return completely unscathed. This therefore makes them the weakest type of Blowhog, as Pikmin who are affected by their elemental ejections do not scatter, unlike Pikmin affected by the other Blowhogs' elemental material.
In Story Mode, Snowy Blowhogs are only encountered in caves. The first one is encountered in the Last-Frost Cavern, where five Ice Pikmin are seen fighting it when visiting the cave for the first time. A Snowy Blowhog can be seen in the Olimar's Voyage Log entry associated with Last-Frost Cavern. In Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, two Snowy Blowhogs appear in Hero's Hideaway.
Strategy[]

Ice Pikmin fighting a Snowy Blowhog in Last-Frost Cavern in Pikmin 4
The strategy for defeating this beast is nearly identical to that of the Watery and Fiery Blowhogs. It's easy to make short work of this creature with Ice Pikmin, as all you have to do is throw some of the aforementioned Pikmin onto it. If you do not possess Ice Pikmin, then it's best to throw your Pikmin on right when the creature starts to eject ice. After it finishes, quickly whistle them off, and then throw them back on after it completes its buck animation (repeat the process until you've felled the Blowhog). This strategy can also be used if you'd like to preserve the flowers of your Ice Pikmin, as there's a chance that they will fall off when the creature bucks them off.
Notes[]
Dalmo's Notes[]
"What's that? You think the different types of Blowhog all look the same? You need to look a bit closer. For example, this fellow has light-yellow eyes and an aquamarine body with turquoise lips and blue nails. It all comes together to create a unique appearance designed to give anyone the chills!"
Olimar's Notes[]
"This species has the ability to condense atmospheric carbon dioxide with an organ called a cold sac. The cold sac creates dry ice, and its vapors are then expelled as icy breath. A close relative to this species, the Fiery Blowhog can keep its internal body temperature from rising because of the phosphoric compounds it expels only ignite when they make contact with the air. In contrast, the Snowy Blowhog maintains internal body conditions below freezing, and its other internal organs are protected by thick layers of fat and the extracellular freezing that occurs within its cold sac."
Louie's Notes[]
"Sprinkle lightly with salt, and eat while the ice bag is still fresh and crunchy. Just one bite will give you the most satisfying brain freeze."
Trivia[]
- The snowy Blowhog is the 5th member and 3rd grounded member of the Blowhog family in the main Pikmin series.
