The Sunseed Berry (ヒダマリノミ, Sunlight Berry) is a recurring item in the Pikmin series. It first appears in Pikmin 2, as a treasure within the Succulent Series. Four Sunseed Berries appear in Pikmin 3, as collectible fruit. In Pikmin 4, there are three Sunseed Berries, which are classified as treasures, like in Pikmin 2. In every appearance, the Sunseed Berry is actually a small strawberry.
Appearances[]
Pikmin 2[]
In Pikmin 2, the Sunseed Berry is located on the surface of the Awakening Wood. and can easily be obtained as it is guarded only by a lone Red Bulborb, and the Sunseed Berry is sitting on a ledge that Pikmin can be thrown onto. The Sunseed Berry has a weight value of 5, requiring at least said number of Pikmin (or one Purple Pikmin) to retrieve, for up to a maximum of 10 Pikmin.
There is also large strawberry treasure, the Combustion Berry, but it has not often appeared in the Pikmin series like with Sunseed Berries.
Pikmin 3[]

The third Sunseed Berry in the Garden of Hope in Pikmin 3
In Pikmin 3, there are four Sunseed Berries to obtain. A Sunseed Berry is the first fruit that Alph encounters on his exploration for food resources. It produces one container of juice to be consumed by the leaders. Sunseed Berries are slightly lighter, since their weight value has been decreased to three.
One is located next to where Brittany is found, and the other in the Garden of Hope is found on the other side of that area. The third Sunseed Berry is located in the Distant Tundra, inside one of the Pyroclasmic Slooches close to the landing site.
Sunseed Berries have a golden variant, Golden Sunseeds, which appear in the three side modes: Mission Mode, Bingo Battle, and Side Stories.
Pikmin 4[]
In Pikmin 4, the three Sunseed Berries are located in the Sun-Speckled Terrace, the Seafloor Resort, and the Cavern for a King respectively.
The Sunseed Berry in Sun-Speckled Terrace is on a small ledge in the central area. Acquiring the Sunseed Berry requires Oatchi to at least be able to jump.
The Sunseed Berry of the Seafloor Resort is in sublevel 1, on top of a tall ledge on the east side of the area. The sprinkler system is an obstacle along the way, so Blue Pikmin can be useful in retrieving the Sunseed Berry.
The Sunseed Berry of the Cavern for a King is in sublevel 19, where it is inside of a broken pail in the northwestern corner.
Notes[]
Olimar's Journal[]
"I found this fascinating fruit while out exploring today. The skies cleared up, and I felt peaceful watching the pink flower petals flutter in the wind. During this perilous expedition, it seems strange to have such softhearted, romantic thoughts. If I told my wife about this, I'm sure I'd get laughed at...again."
Sales Pitch[]
"This fruit is born of bright sunlight and cheerful warmth. Come, all you gloomy naysayers! One bite and even sad sacks will become foolhardy optimists. Eat one today and change your life!"
Brittany's Notes[]
- NTSC "As a scientist and as a food eater, I'm excited about this new source of potential nutrition. I just wish it didn't look like it was covered in pimples. Luckily, the taste of it is like delicious and scrumptious had a baby. Let's gather as many of these as we can!"
- PAL "I've never experienced anything like it. Scientifically speaking, the flavour straddles the boundary between scrumptious and delicious, and can only be described as 'scrumplicious'. On the down side, this fruit appears to have a nasty case of pimples."
Schnauz's Notes[]
"No matter how down you may be, these tasty bursts of joy are almost sure to turn your mood around. That's because they're happiness in fruit form! As the name implies, they plant seeds of sunny warmth in the middle of your heart, and there they grow, like an invasive species of happiness."
Olimar's Notes[]
"The scent of this fruit tickles my heart for some reason. It makes me think back on summer memories, my wife smiling at me in the sunlight... She'd probably have a good laugh if she ever read this, but that wouldn't be so bad. I happen to love that sound!"
Louie's Notes[]
"Eat them as is or with a dollop of cream. The sweetest juice is concentrated at the tip."
Trivia[]

A strawberry in a pre-release build of Pikmin
- A strawberry, which resembles the Sunseed Berry, can be seen in a 2001 pre-release trailer for Pikmin, which shows five Yellow Pikmin carrying it back to one of the onions. However it is unknown what the purpose of the Sunseed Berry was, as it was removed before the game was released. It was likely another way to grow Pikmin, or possibly a power-up of some kind.
