Pikmin Wiki

Wake up everyone, September has ended, the PWHL Schedule is out, and Spooky season is here

That means its time for the October Newsletter

Given the nature of spooky month I wanted to highlight a video from The Digital Dream Club, Pikmin: Nintendo’s Survival Horror Masterpiece detailing how Pikmin's world, design, and aesthetics fit itself to a much more colourful and whimsical world than is actually portrayed once you play it. As the title suggests, Pikmin is a Survival Horror game, where the main character suffers a quite non-ambiguous death to a poisonous (albeit Oxygen) atmosphere if the player fails. In addition, I can't count how many times I've seen a streamer play Pikmin for the first time just to watch in horror as they drive their Pikmin into the pools of the Forest of Hope for the first time.

As a personal note, hopefully not aging myself too much here, I have always been a fan of the old N64/GameCube era technology where if too many sounds played at once, they would do so with a definite "CRONCH". The old sound effects can be satisfying compared to higher fidelity yet bland modern effects

100 Pikmin drowning at once, or 50 bomb rocks all going off, is quite the sound

But don't just take my word for it, I'm sure you all remember your first Waterwraith encounter. However, that's already detailed in the above video. I want to hear your thoughts.

Why don't y'all in the comments drop your favourite spooky scary part of the Pikmin series, or a particularly frightening encounter you may have had while playing. That or just tell us your Halloween plans

As always here is the off-topic thread

For articles of note this month, what better than the Paleontology Series

Featuring, the jack-o'-lantern Possessed Squash

The Human (Chimp) Skull Colossal Fossil

Or the Monstrous Cthulhu (Crab) Claw Mysterious Remains

Honourable mention to the severed (fake) baby head Silencer

Oooh, spoooky
